What is there to do in Munich?
Munich is a beautiful city with a rich history and culture. The city of beer, Lederhosen, pretzels and Wurst (sausages), Munich is what comes to mind when people picture the ‘stereotypical German.’ Bavaria, of which Munich is the capital city, is home to many global brand headquarters, such as BMW and Siemens, and with such a thriving economy it is the wealthiest Bundesland (State) in Germany.
Since Munich is a city full of tradition, there is always something to see or to do. Of course ththe main event during the year is the Oktoberfest, which attracts around 6 million people from all over the world every single year to eat, drink and enjoy traditional Bavarian entertainment. In Munich you can find the famous Glockenspiel at the Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall). You can also try traditional Bavarian food at the Viktualienmarkt or visit the enormous Deutsches Museum, the biggest science museum in the world. A short train ride away you can find Neuschwanstein Castle nestled at the foot of the Alps or enjoy incredible views from the highest mountain in Germany, the Zugspitze. As for the language, German is spoken by over 100 million people worldwide and is undoubtedly one of the most important languages regarding international trade. German is also becoming one of the most widely used languages on the internet, with ‘.de’ domain names outnumbering all other geographical domains. Learning German will allow you to understand and enjoy much of Germany’s great cultural heritage. Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Goethe, the Brothers Grimm and Albert Einstein were all German-speaking, to name just a few cultural icons known worldwide.
